New Ford in stable

Post by Boss281 on Sun Mar 09, 2014 8:04 am

The truck had no real value as a daily driver since it doesn't see tow duty to the track any more.  So I unloaded it and got a 2014 Focus 2014.  Return of the pocket rocket!!!  Fun for commutes, and the Boss is itching to get out on weekends.  Love it!

Yeah it's the ST.  The sucker flies for a four banger, and handles on rails.  So far, the only quibbles are tiny cup holders, fog light switch next to trunk release, and keyless ignition.

That's awesome! I test drove one last Tuesday.  Punched it through all 6 and it was awesome!  Still not the fox tho:p. Did you get it at apple?

No, I got it at Frederick Motor Company.  I saw the ones that Apple had and that would have been my next stop.  FMC was closer to me...

Yep, the go fast goodies are hitting the aftermarket.  Here's what the guy was referring to from Ford Racing: http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=22952 .  That's on my list, as is some stiffer (!!!) suspension pieces.  Thing tracks on rails but there is a tad bit of body roll at speed, so... yeah, it begins...

I tell you one thing.... I hope there is something out there that can prevent torque steer and front wheel hop. I stomped on it and the wheel hop was worse than my mustang

Well, front wheel + turbo is going to give you torque steer under heavy play time, so that's just something to work with.  The blown front drive pocket rockets from the 80s (Shelby Charger/Turismo, Omni GLHS, Daytona/Laser) all had terrible torque steer, and the Focus ST is a bit refined compared to them.  Still coming around a corner and hitting it gives you that unnerving little pull of the wheel and then the "hop", and so far it's not been a problem, just something to watch for.
