My new toy

Post by Big Blue on Fri Feb 07, 2014 9:16 am

So welcome our first Mustang II to the herd, her mane is Pip Squeak †† 2.3L 4 banger, oh buy the way if anyone knows where there might be a 302 or 351W setting around that I could get my hands on, let me know, I need to start building her new motor †

Never been a fan of the II. But I definitely could learn to be with a 302 or 351W †

So what is the history of this specific car? By the color I'd tend to say a women may have owned it, had a vinyl roof and the passenger seat has had a tall person riding in it with the head rest maxed out.

But serious will you be painting it once you V-8 it? It was a weird period of time in the US auto industry in the mid 70's for sure. Also how are parts for these cars?

Parts are no problem, and I will probably get to the paint before the motor, and yes I'm going to paint her Gotta Have it Green.

good for you that is a pretty cool find and you just don't see them very often and it is a mixed bag on condition.

Sounds like you have your work cut up I hope you'll keep us posted on things.

And any setup you can put into a fox will also bolt right up in a II, and donít forget, the fox had a 4 banger as well, oh and your a young guy, I grew up with the real mustang 64 1/2 to 73, truth be told, I appreciate the fox today, I learned to, but I was checking in cars for the same dealer that you now work for when the first fox came in, and I remember thinking, what the hell did for do to the mustang, I lost all interest in the car and didnít get interested in it again until the s197, because, it finally looked like a Mustang again, no hard feelings to the Fox owners, but please donít harbor them against the II, remember, if it where not for the Fox saving the line, we wouldnít have Mustang today, but if it where not for II we wouldnít have had the fox, the II also saved the line, Mustang sales had dropped drastically because during the gas crisis no one wanted a gas hog, and the II became the best selling Mustang ever up to that point, we donít bash 6ers here, and we donít bash any Mustang, they all had and have there place in Mustang history.
I wanted a Mustang II since they where new, and I finally have one, and when its done, it will be off the hook, until then Iím going to fun with, with its 4 Banger

congrats again Ed!

not everyday you see a Mustang II, when I was a kid I remember seeing them everywhere. Nowadays it is rare to see them especially at car shows. That car has a ton of potential and can certainly be made to be badass. I hope to get out to see it soon, been busier then a one legged man in an ass kicking contest while jumping rope at the same time

Well, that is quite busy!

Ed, glad you got what you were looking for! Let me know if you need any help ripping her apart and getting that 351 in there!

Yes sir the foxes do look like ecsorts and my 90 looks exactly like the 86 escort I had on the inside. †but the fox is hella fast and can drift like a champ. †

On your pony II were pretty cool when the King Cobra came out.

You are absolutely correct about the Fox being Hella Fast, but as I tried to get you to realize, any setup that will bolt up in a Fox will also bolt up in a II, bolt right in, the only thing I have to change is the motor mounts.

Yes the bolts on would be great for you and the II. Sadly your car isn't as representative as the Fox is and I am not sure exactly. Granted your car is close to 40 years old and like the Vega outside of the few Cosworth's just aren't around. 9Manufacturing numbers might be part of that issue) So maybe the Fox's life span may become similiar in time. Although I see a lot of 4 eyed foxes in good shape which surprises me. Big blue I am looking forward to seeing your car once you've transformed it.

And that makes it interesting to me, this one only has 53,000 miles on it, and is 90% rust free, particularly in problem areas for II's mine is solid, and I like the fact that you don't see them everyday, just remember, for me, this was the new mustang of the day when I got my DL, and I wanted one, of course back then a kid couldn't afford a new car, so I never got one, until now, and the more I drive the little car, the more I like it
