It's Supecharger time!

Post by RTW0223 on Sun Aug 04, 2013 7:59 pm

Began on the install yesterday but was pretty much rained out.  Worked on it all day today.  I did a lot of running to Sears and Autozone due to lack of tools

42# injectors

Air inlet routing...  It was a Bitch getting it through the fender.  And I had to widen the hold in the engine bay for this to fit.  Also, concerning the bypass valve, should the bottom nipple of this be left open to atmosphere or should it be connected to the vacuum tree?

Vortech Bracket that bolts to the block.  Had to retain the smog pump that came with the used kit.  I had bought a smog pump delete pulley but there is no hole on the side of the delete pulley for the curved support brace for the alternator

New setup.  Havent put the new upper radiator hose on yet

New look

Ran into an issue when reverting my a/c and p/s pump to its oem position.  I must be missing the piece that I have highlighted in the below picture becasue there is a huge gap between the p/s pump and the block.  Do any of you know what this piece is and where I can find it?

Things left to be done:
- Still need to find a band clamp big enough to clamp the inlet tube to the 90* elbow that goes into the head unit
- Tap the oil pan and route the oil drain line,.
- Still awaiting the shipment of the oil feed kit from Summit (had to ship directly from Vortech because they were out of stock so it may take a week)
- route the belts
- fix that p/s pump gap issue
- install MSD 6al
- fire her up!

Scratch the inquiry on the stock p/s pump bracket. Found one on Corral and bought it.

Yeah and i'll be honest the Vortech install manual is not the greatest.  I pretty much did this off of pictures from google and my own knowledge.

Went out today about bought several stuff for the msd ignition control box:

And the oil feed kit finally came in from Vortech today!:

Also was able to bolt this onto the crank yesterday.  There is minimal space between the S/C belt drive and the fan/fan shroud!

Yeah that would probably be smart.  But wouldnt a "spacer" extend the fan towards the enginge? Or did you make one that is thinner than teh existing one?

I am not really too worried about it now since the engine rocks side to side not front to back but we shall see if the added air and fuel will cause for random torque spikes in the forward direction.

And I'll tell ya what.... Vortech doesn't give any play in their oil feed line.

Got around to mounting the MSD 6AL this evening.  Ran all the wiring through a loom and hooked them all up.  Once I finally start the car, is there a way to find out if this is actually working?

Here's a shot of the passenger side engine bay.  You can also see the new upper radiator hose

It's hard to see in this picture but the intake elbow that goes into the supercharger collides with the fuel rail relief valve.  There is no where really to reposition either component.

I drove it just now and it runs a bit rough.  Front head lights went out so I pulled over to try and cycle power and car took about 3 min to start again.

I am going to call JJ Woodbine tomorrow

it shouldn't run rough, never had one do such, you need to double check your installation and if car ran smooth before install , it still should be the same afterwards.

Yeah I have to look everything over but unsure of what to specifically look at. Nothing leaks and all plumbing is tightened down. I haven't done spark plugs yet maybe that's it. Also the msd wouldn't start the car so I need to figure out that wiring.

make sure the maf is straight and did you lengthen the maf connector down to the fenderwell, if you tried to stretch it = could of bent a pin and or got a bad connection, and if your spark plugs were fine before, shouldn't have an issue now, unless you cracked a plug, but I never have pulled them when doing a s/c on a gt - 40 head set up, my buddies car I did runs the standard plug for gt-40 heads and 10 psi with a tune and no issue

I removed all of the harness's mounting points to give me the extra length that way I avoided stretching it. But I will double check that the wire is not too tight.

So the HIDs not working last night was due to a blown fuse. Replaced the fuse and only 1 light worked.  So i ended up just pulling the entire HID kit out and putting the stock bulbs back in. Lights work. done. ha

Went for another test drive today. a little further. a little faster.  Stick keeping her under 3k rpm and never once applying but a light foot on the petal.  Im now hesitant whether or not to call it 'rough'.  I only feel a little 'rooughness' in 5th gear when it kinda chugs along under 2k rpm.

Pull a plug and see what it reads.

What do you have the FP set at, and is the fuel regulator adding 1:1?

Do you have a BTM? Are you pulling timing? Whats base spout out timing set at?
