Anyone into handgun target shooting?

Post by Big-B on Fri Feb 01, 2013 3:49 pm

Thought I'd change things up a bit. anyone into this as a hobby? I was real avid for a long time. Then I just stoped. (18 year hiatus) Reloaded all my own ammo, great hobby. recently got back into it. Anyone else?

I am not really into it as a hobby (no reloading my own ammo) but I go to the range a bit.

Recently with all the folks running out to by new guns because they think a ban is going to happen the ranges have been crazy. Its like going to they gym right after the new year

I haven't shot hanguns in a very long time but am buying two shortly. But I do have long guns for target shooting, so if we're not set on just handguns...

I just got back into it in October, used to go all the time with my Dad and reload, and now the crap hits the fan... Got a M&P 22 pistol for myself for my birthday, a S&W 6904 just came in yesterday and went to do the paperwork, and I have my Glock Sports Shooting Foundation coupon to use, but that'll be awhile, as I hear Glock is 120 days backlogged. Once my time is up after the 6904, I'm gonna hit The Cop Shop (GSSF dealer) for my Glock and hope they have one...

I know. No one has reloading supplies. I have looked everywhere on line, all out of stock. 357,44 mag, 9mm, nothing. I have primers and brass. Powder can still be found easily, no flipping bullets. If you know of a place that has supplies, let me know.

Once this frenzy and ban this and that bull is over, I intend to start handloading my own 9mm and .223s. These prices are effed up for sure.

Yup, like everything, supply in demand just drives the price outa site. One of the calibers we shoot is a .22. My youngest and Suzanne really love this gun. Well, like all other ammo, it's in short. I start looking around, I call Dick's Sporting goods, they tell me they'll have a delivery Friday and that it goes really fast. The guy at Dick's said they haven't changed their pricing and weren't going to. Good for the consumer. So I get to the store an hour early on Friday. Store opens and I go in and score a bucket o bullets by Remington. 1400 rounds for 64.99. I bought 4 buckets. I won't have to worry about 22 ammo for a while. I still have quite a bit 357 and 9mm that I loaded from years ago. However, I'd like to find some supplies so i can keep my stock up.

The way things are going I am going to have to learn how to reload my own ammo too. I can find ammo for the boom stick but even that has gone up in price.

Dicks in Columbia doesn't carry any hunting/gun/fishing stuff anymore. I went there back in November, walked the whole place and went up front and ask a gal. She said "Oh, no, we don't carry that stuff anymore." I said "Well, I guess all the yuppies in Columbia would rather play with their balls (pun intended) and do fitness sports." and walked out.... I haven't bee shooting since the day before the BS in CT. I pick up ammo when I can. But I'm holding onto what little I have right now. Plus, I kinds dislike On Target now I've been to Freestate in White Marsh, their range is sooo much nicer. A bit smaller but they are alot nicer and the range is well equipped and maintained better.
I don't see things letting up anytime soon, with a new situation every week of a shooting and whatnot...

Getting ammo at reasonable prices is must luck, and a few boxes at a time. BassPro is hit or miss, but they get the stuff in by the pallet. My last run yielded shotgun shells only, no 9mm and I didn't need any more .223.

Never had an issue w/ On Target. That's where we go. Their prices are reasonable, you don't have to be a member and you can bring your own ammo. The places here in Mont co. are ridiculaus!! Have to be a member and can't bring your own ammo. #@*! that.

Yeah, I dropped another online place off my shopping list because they wouldn't ship to MD. I also found out Freestate in Middle River will accept the Glock coupon. I'd rather go there than deal with the parking downtown by police hq....
