Re: Supercharger choice

Post by 03RedfireVert on Sat Nov 28, 2009 9:52 am

I didn't have the kind of $$$ that JPC wanted, so I bought the Kenne Bell, installed it myself, then drove it out to SGS in Pennsylvania for a custom tune. Said and done, including guages, I only have about 6500 in my whole setup (including buying the kit brand new from Kenne Bell). Just something to think about, but the Kenne Bell was not hard at all to install, and I ran the chip they sent with it for almost 6 months. Just took it to SGS to have it detuned a bit...

BTW, my car was only down for a Friday night / Saturday morning. And that was me doing the install by myself with the instructions Kenne Bell sent out. And out of all of that, I probably have 600 bucks in guages (Autometer Phantom, Wideband, Fuel Pres, Boost/Vac, Oil Pres, Water Temp).

And my tune at SGS (by Dave Guy, he's a Kenne Bell guru) only cost me 400 bucks...

I know JPC will put your parts on but also keep in mind if you do not buy the parts from them it is a 10 dollar an hour extra labor charge. I priced everything up and could only save myself 50.00 in parts however could not find someone that was selling just the novi head unit. Seems that everything is a kit for 5300. When are they moving I dont feel like driving to upper marlboro, I only live 5 min from him. I will order and have the install done prior if I can then

I spoke to him on sat and he said they have already started moving. Not sure when they will be settled in though

Yes I just emailed Tommy to get a time frame in case I want to get this done prior to them moving. This sucks to, that is the last mustang joint close to me that is reputable.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this Saleen Kit. The part # is 1607-B15060. I have a good opportunity to buy this really cheap and new. Please let me know your thoughts asap

Just go for it and do self install. (or with us helping you) Keep it cheap. Also, for a common set-up, you have nothing to fear from a mail order tune to keep price down.

I would love to do this myself. However the wife is set against me doing any engine work myself due to previous vehicles and how much was spent to get things right due to wrong combinations.

It's a kit! C'mon. tell her you'll buy her something with the money you'll save with self install (obviously, don't spend the full amount you save but you get my point)

Ok spoke with alot of people and think I have come to a final decision. I am going to have the Ford Racing Whipple Supercharger (WK-200754P) along with Ceramic long tube headers and catted h pipe with custom tune and a ten rib set up. What does everyone think of this set up.

10 rib? Where the hell are those confused faces? Sad You could certainly change to 8-rib pulleys IF you have a small enough diameter s/c pulley . . . or you just want to be able to say, "oh, look at my pulleys". Unless you are running enough boost where you need to build your bottom end, you can save the money you were going to throw at the pulleys.
Why the Ford Racing? Why in God's name not the new Roush TVS or the Edelbrock which are both amazing and very effiecient?
You can get any headers coated. Which ones are you going with?

I have spoke to a few shops and read a few articles all bashing the elderbrok from being a nightmare to tune and just not what they expected. I am doing the 10 rib setup so that if in the future I want to do the bottom I could not to mention no having to worry about throwing the 8 rib belt which is notorious with the whipple. There is a article in the Mustang Ford magazine with the steeda which was just done with the 10 rib setup. I am very impressed with this supercharger not to mention it comes with everything and dont have to worry about piecing or upgrading the fuel system due to comes with it. I will however be doing a custom tune instead of fords. Looking at about 12 psi and 479RWHP. We shall see

Sorry forgot the headers are going to be JBA with high flow catted h pipe. Which willl mean I will have a bassani x pipe with high flow cats going for sale right after the install. I have the deletes for them you would just have to have the welded cats cut out and the deletes welded in. I will also have the JLT intake system for sale at that time to. Looking to have this done within the next 3 months

The Edelbrock only had issues when trying to run only 5psi boost. At higher boost, it is badass.

Good luck with that and I sure as hell hope you make a lot more than 479 rwhp with LT headers and 12psi boost.

Also, what fuel system upgrade are you going with? BAP or dual pumps? What size injectors?

You may want larger injectors. Definitely have your tuner check the duty cycle before it leaves the shop

Yeah I am leaving that in the hands of JPC Racing to figure out and advise me. I have never been steered wrong by them. So I kind of have to look at there advice as golden. Thanks for all the input will be placing my order right after the new year. My car is still down with other mods right now and looks like approx. another 2-3 weeks. We shalll see.
